the exhibition

Artwork titled 'Mercural Pearl', 2024, features a framed collage with an outline of a heart-shaped pearl, showing classical sculptures inside and a background of autumn-colored trees.

Through a mixed-media presentation including collage, photography, sculpture, embroidery, video and sound, the artists drew on their shared and personal experiences to reveal grief as a nuanced, collective experience.

Though often experienced in isolation, it can be owned and honoured. The collection sought to transcend the weight of grief and shed light on its complex and often unexpectedly pretty forms.

“Your grief belongs to you, and it can be so so pretty” moved from darkness and rigidity to glimmers and softness. The works told stories of layered complexity, abstracted moments in time and space, and the universal need for connection.

In addition to the grief that accompanies death, the work explored the grief of letting go of a past version of oneself, the bitter-sweet grief of nostalgia, the disconnected grief of being an immigrant in another country…and the rituals subconsciously created to integrate it all.

Collage of black and white photographs and cutouts arranged on a large board, featuring various scenes, objects, and people, in an abstract composition.
An art collage featuring a vintage-style woman with short red hair, holding her fingers in a 'peace' sign near her face. The woman's eye is covered with a white circular sticker. The background has a mix of colors and textures, including yellow and brown geometric shapes, with fragments of printed text and a floral pattern on her shirt.
